1. God loves us…

The Christian faith starts and ends with God’s love for us. If you’re a member of the human race, then God loves you. This isn’t just any kind of love, this is ultimate love. Love is God’s agenda. 1 John 4 verse 16 even says that ‘God is love’ – love is who he is.

2. We have sinned…

Sin can be an unhelpful word, it’s the word we use to describe the things that we get wrong. It’s no secret that the human race is in a mess – just look at the world around you. Each and every one of us has hurt other people, our planet and ultimately, God. The problem with sin is that there’s a price tag attached to it. In the same way that if you steal a car you you’ll probably end up in prison. God can’t ignore the things that we do wrong. Someone has to pay a price. The other bi-product of sin is separation from God.

3. Jesus died for us…

The good news is that someone did pay the price for us. Out of his love for us, God sent his only son to die on a cross and pay for all the things that we’ve done wrong. Because of this sacrifice, we can be free to enjoy relationship with God again and be a part of his family.

4. We get to choose what happens next…

God is the ultimate gentleman. He never forces himself on us. He’ll only come into our lives and have relationship with us when he is invited. God has done everything for us that we might have relationship with him again. But, we need to choose whether we enter into relationship with him again or not… it’s always our choice.

But I still don’t get it! I still have questions…

We’re never going to be able to sum up the Christian faith in four paragraphs – that’s there to give you a speedy overview. You’ll still have unanswered questions and that’s great. People who have been Christians for decades still have questions and it’s really important to wrestle with them.

We’ve put together a little video to try explain the heart of the Christian message – the cross.

Maybe some of your questions are like these?

Surely faith is irrational?
How can God be real if there is so much suffering?
What about science? Hasn’t science disproved the existence of God?
Wasn’t Jesus just a myth? Did he really walk the earth?
How can we rely on the Bible?

You don’t need to leave your brain at the door to be a Christian…. in fact, we think it’s great to have questions about Christian faith. The important thing is to engage with these questions rather than dismiss them. We’re big fans of the Explore God YouTube Channel which explores questions like these.
